The birds

THE BIRD: Endemic to New Zealand. Once widespread Rock wren are now only found on the South Island alpine and sub-alpine areas. Endangered and diminishing, their ground dwelling habits make them at risk from stoats and rats. A far too common scenario for NZ birds.
