THE CARVING: A pair of fantails. Carved from matai that used to be a door step from an old villa. Eyes are onyx, legs cast metal and painted with artist acrylics.

Set upon found wood.

Mounts to the wall with a french cleat.
This piece won the Applied Art Award – all mediums other than painting section (sponsored by Berry & Co, Barristers & Solicitors), at the 34th Autumn Festival Art Exhibition at the Lakes district Museum in Arrowtown, 2018.

The birds

THE BIRD: Endemic to New Zealand. Fantails are found on all islands though not in tussock lands and alpine areas.


Life size. Wall mounted. Approximately 700mm high x 500mm wide x 540mm out from wall.
